Google Expands Gemini Capabilities with New Models and Apps

Google today announced the Connected Apps Platform, a new initiative that allows developers to integrate their apps directly into Gemini and Search, according to 9To5Google.

Developers can choose whether their apps will be available in Search, the Gemini app, or both. The Gemini app now includes a new Customize page as part of its recent redesign.

In addition to the Gemini app, Google will soon make existing Connected Apps available in Search, expanding the reach of these apps to high-intent users.

Google also introduced Gemini 4 Argon, the flagship model of its Gemini 4 generation, which is now available to a vetted group of cyber defenders. This model is designed to handle complex reasoning tasks in the cloud while a separate on-device model handles time-sensitive tasks locally.

Gemini 4 Argon has a one-million-token output context window, a significant improvement over the 64,000-token ceiling of previous models. It is available to Google AI Pro subscribers for $20 per month, AI Ultra subscribers for $99 per month, and enterprise developers through the Gemini API.

The new model is positioned within a split architecture for robotics, where it handles heavy reasoning tasks such as video analysis and spatial mapping in the cloud, while a separate on-device model handles motor control locally.

Gemini 4 Argon also enables the generation, preview, and editing of files directly within a chat, enhancing the user experience and workflow efficiency.

Rolls-Royce announced that its MTU Series 4000 and Series 2000 marine engines have received certification from the U.S. Navy for use in autonomous naval vessel operations, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of unmanned maritime capabilities.

After passing two 720-hour durability tests, the mtu Series 4000 engines were certified for use in autonomous applications for up to 4300kW of propulsion power and 3000kWe of power generation.

The new Echo speaker from Amazon includes visual intelligence and a larger 16-inch display, while the HomePod mini is expected to feature a newer processor, improved audio, and upgraded Ultra Wideband capabilities.

Both the Echo and HomePod mini retain their original designs but add new features such as a home hub, on-device AI capabilities, and support for Siri AI in future software updates.

Google’s Connected Apps Platform is designed to enable developers to build once and reach high-intent users across both Gemini and Search, according to 9To5Google.
