Hornets, forward Miller agree to 5-year, $209M rookie extension
· Confirmed
In Short: Charlotte Hornets forward Brandon Miller has agreed to a five-year, $209 million rookie-scale contract extension, representatives AJ Vaynerchuk and Joey Middleton of VaynerSports told ESPN's Shams Charania on Monday.
The deal, which begins in 2027/28, is just above the five-year, $208 million rookie scale extension that Amen Thompson signed with the Rockets.
Miller, the Hornets' No. 2 overall pick in 2023, is coming off the best season of his career, averaging 20.2 points per game on 43.5% shooting from the field and a career-high 38.3% from three-point range.
The Hornets have undergone a transformative offseason, trading away star guard LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges, leaving Miller and rookie Kon Knueppel as the faces of the franchise.
Miller's new contract guarantees him with the organization through the 2031-32 season, barring a trade.
The deal also allows the Hornets to maintain some cap flexibility in the future.
Miller's breakout season followed a sophomore campaign in which he was held to 27 games due to injuries.
Last season, Miller played in 65 games, averaging 20.2 points per game with 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists.
Miller was especially key to Charlotte's midseason turnaround, as the Hornets went 41-24 with Miller available and 3-14 without him.
Miller and Knueppel helped spearhead a surprise run to the postseason in the second half of last year, where they fell in the second play-in game.
The Hornets will begin the 2026-27 NBA season on Wednesday against the Brooklyn Nets on the road.
Miller's new extension, which begins in 2027/28, will reportedly come in $1MM above the five-year, $208MM rookie scale extension that Amen Thompson signed with the Rockets.
The deal is a significant commitment from the Hornets, as Miller has missed just under 45% of Charlotte's games in the previous two seasons.
