At least 2 killed, 8 injured in Kyiv as Russia drones, missile strike market, gas station in hours-long attacks
Confirmed
In Short: Ukraine's Air Force said Russia launched 124 drones during Monday’s attacks, including 86 jet-powered drones.

Russian forces hit Kyiv's National Academy of Sciences and other sites in a series of attacks on Monday, killing at least two people and wounding 43 others, according to Ukrainian officials.
The attacks included strikes on a market, a gas station, and a pharmaceutical plant, causing extensive damage across the city.
Ukraine's State Emergency Service reported that at least one person was killed and six others were injured in the attack on the National Academy of Sciences.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital left 19 people, including three children, injured.
Three people, including an Azerbaijani national, were also killed in strikes on the wider Kyiv Oblast overnight, with a further eight sustaining injuries, authorities announced.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukrainian forces had targeted two defense plants in Russia's Tula and Voronezh regions on Sunday night.
Zelenskyy said sanctions were also launched against facilities used for drone terror in the Kaluga and Oryol regions, and a target was hit in the Black Sea.
The number of jet-powered drones launched has spiked eightfold since June, rising from 350 documented that month to 2,850 in August.
Zelenskyy said Kyiv is accelerating production of air defense systems capable of intercepting the jet-powered drones.
The attacks came amid a day of devastation in Kyiv with multiple hours-long attacks reported across the capital.
Children, elderly people, and a person on crutches walked alongside draft-age men who were likely Russian soldiers wearing civilian clothes, according to Khartiia Corps' drone footage.
What this adds
The attacks mark one of the heaviest strikes since Russia began using faster, harder-to-intercept jet drones.
The number of drones launched in a single wave has fallen from its peak in May, but the share of jet-powered drones has risen sharply in recent months.
Little is known about the production numbers and scale of air defense systems capable of intercepting the jet-powered drones.
