Russian Attacks Kill 9, Wound 56 in Ukraine

In Short: Russian attacks overnight into Saturday killed nine people and injured 56 others across Ukraine, according to local authorities.

More than a dozen explosions were reported in Kyiv during several waves of attacks, with fires breaking out and power outages reported in some areas.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a residential building in Shevchenkivskyi district was partially destroyed, trapping people inside. The heaviest casualties were reported in two districts.
Lithuania’s embassy in Kyiv was also damaged after two missiles landed nearby during a Russian attack, the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said.
Russian forces took control of two more villages across two Ukrainian regions – Olgivka in Kharkiv and Lyubytske in Zaporizhia – the Interfax news agency reported, citing the Defence Ministry.
In retaliation, Ukraine struck three Russian oil refineries’ infrastructure in the Bashkortostan region, nearly 1,600km from the border, and sank a sanctioned Russian container ship, Yanina.

In the southern city of Odesa, a Sept. 28 Russian attack on a high-rise residential building injured six people, two of whom were hospitalized, regional governor Oleh Kiper said.
In northern Sumy Oblast, five people were wounded in Russian drone attacks over the past day, the regional military administration said.
Over central Kyiv, air defense systems were reported to be active, filling the city with sounds of blasts and explosions.
