Kyiv science academy hit dead as russian jet drones strike across ukraine
Confirmed
In Short: Russian drones struck Ukraine's National Academy of Sciences in Kyiv, killing two people and injuring at least 19 others, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The attack occurred in the historic heart of Kyiv, near the German embassy, a cathedral, the national opera, and government buildings.
Volodymyr Gorbulin, a former secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council, told state broadcaster Suspilne that he was at work at the academy when it was hit and was slightly wounded.
Zelenskyy said in his nightly video address that nine people had been killed and more than 80 injured in Russian drone strikes throughout the country.
In addition to the academy, a pharmaceutical company, petrol stations, and a medical facility in Kyiv were also hit, according to Zelenskyy.
Elsewhere, Russian strikes killed four and wounded at least 19 at a business centre in Dnipro, while authorities reported an unspecified number of fatalities in a strike on a residential area in eastern Kharkiv.
In Zaporizhzhia, 30 civilians were wounded, three of them seriously, in strikes on the region.
Zelenskyy detailed a report from Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR) which showed that Russia had launched a new wave of mobilization for its military.
Emergency officials said the strike on the National Academy of Sciences on Monday killed two people, with one person’s body recovered from the rubble later in the evening.
Footage of the attack on the Academy shows people leaning out of windows as bright orange flames engulf part of the historic building.
The National Academy of Sciences is in the historic heart of Kyiv and not far from the German embassy.
Zelenskyy called for stronger international pressure on the financing and production of Russian weapons, appealing to Ukraine’s partners for a response.
Zelenskyy said on Monday that it had struck Russian oil facilities in the Krasnodar region and two defense plants.
