Apple is facing congressional scrutiny over its hosting of tracking apps used by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on the App Store, according to 9to5Mac. Meanwhile, AzerNews reported that Democrats are preparing investigations into companies that cultivated ties with the Trump administration, including Apple.

9to5Mac noted that lawmakers are gearing up to investigate Apple over its hosting of ICE tracking apps. AzerNews, citing sources familiar with the plans, said the investigations are aimed at companies that supported the Trump administration.

According to 9to5Mac, Senator Richard Blumenthal called on Apple and other donors to the Trump White House ballroom project to turn over records or face possible subpoenas. The Washington Post reported that Apple and Nvidia each pledged $25 million toward the ballroom, making them two of the project’s largest donors.

Apple has also faced questions from Democratic lawmakers over the extent of the Trump administration’s involvement in the decision to remove certain apps from the App Store, as reported by 9to5Mac.

In addition to the ICE app scrutiny, Apple’s new iPhone Duo is facing early hardware durability issues. Techdigest reported that some users are experiencing cracked internal displays and pixel failures just days after purchase.

Apple acknowledged the defect in a recent statement, as reported by Gadgetpilipinas, but maintained that only a “small number” of units are affected. Techdigest noted that the company initially faced hurdles with replacement logistics but later secured a device swap for a customer.

Apple’s new boss launched the iPhone Duo, priced starting at $1,999, marking a significant shift in hardware strategy, according to reports. However, a teardown by Channelnews revealed a potentially serious hinge design issue that could explain the display cracking issues.

Apple’s review process blocked more than 150,000 apps from reaching users in the previous year, according to Innovation-Village. This comes amid growing scrutiny of so-called nudify apps, which use AI to create fake nude images of people without their consent.

Apple’s new iPhone Duo has been downloaded by more than 5,000 people on the App Store since its launch in August, according to WIRED.

Apple is also facing scrutiny over Justin Timberlake’s docuseries on Apple TV, which is set to delve into his life and past controversies, as reported by Stereogum and Ratingsgamemusic.

Both 9to5Mac and AzerNews reported that Apple is under scrutiny for its ties to the Trump administration and for hosting ICE tracking apps, while Techdigest and Channelnews focused on the hardware issues with the iPhone Duo.
