Ukraine Reports Russia's Military Losses Since Invasion
· Confirmed
In Short: The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Russia has lost 1,588,180 troops since the start of its full-scale invasion on Feb. 24, 2022.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on Oct. 31 that Russia has lost 1,588,180 troops since the start of its full-scale invasion on Feb. 24, 2022. The report also detailed significant losses in military equipment, including 12,450 tanks, 25,620 armored combat vehicles, and 168,480 vehicles and fuel tanks.
According to the report, Russia has also lost 51,739 artillery systems, 2,247 multiple-launch rocket systems, 1,730 air defense systems, 452 aircraft, 356 helicopters, and 3,045 unmanned ground vehicles. Additionally, Russia has lost 35 ships and boats and two submarines.
While Ukrainian officials rarely disclose their own losses, President Volodymyr Zelensky told France TV on Feb. 4 that at least 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in action since the beginning of the full-scale war, in addition to significant numbers who are missing in action.
Ukraine's General Staff has not revealed its own losses during the full-scale invasion, citing operational secrecy. However, the General Staff warned its partners about the criminal plans of the aggressor state of Russia, including the involvement of agents recruited by the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (GRU) and the FSB of the Russian Federation in Europe.
The Kremlin has dismissed these reports, with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov saying, “Don't trust them.” Meanwhile, Russia forces launched 295 drones against Ukraine overnight, and battlefield positions have changed little since last year, in part because swarms of drones severely restrict troop movements.
President Donald Trump has called for an end to the war, stating that Russia has “lost control” of its diesel industry due to the ongoing fighting with Ukraine. Zelenskyy described his conversation with Trump as an “important conversation” and said an in-person meeting with Trump on the sidelines of this week's UN General Assembly “could change a lot.”
What this adds
The report from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is consistent with previous estimates and adds to the ongoing narrative of significant Russian military losses since the start of the invasion.
