Paul Bettany, the actor who has played Vision since his debut in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron,' suffered an eye injury while filming 'VisionQuest' for Disney+. According to ComicBook.com, the injury occurred when he was 'wildly overacting' for a scene in the Marvel series.

Bettany's injury was so severe that it required the use of CGI to fix his performances in post-production, as reported by ComicBook.com. The actor said his eye remained bloody for two weeks, and the production team had to digitally remove the redness to make his performances appear normal.

In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Bettany joked about the injury, saying that he could make his eye pop, which was even better than crying on cue. He also mentioned that the injury might have cost the studio as much to fix as some of the superhero scenes in the series.

The scene in question required Bettany to portray Vision experiencing the effects of a device interfering with his brain. However, his attempt to make the performance convincing went a bit too far, leading to the injury. As reported by Comingsoon and Superherohype, Bettany explained, 'It was a lesson in less is more.'

Bettany, who reprises his role as Vision in the Disney+ series, revealed that he 'blew out about 10 blood vessels' in his eye during a particularly committed scene. He said, 'So, I was pretending to have a device on my head that is doing something to my brain, and I was just wildly overacting. And I blew out about 10 blood vessels in my eye,' as reported by Fox News.

The injury left his eye visibly bloody for approximately two weeks, as noted by Comingsoon and Superherohype. Bettany joked that it must have cost production so much to remove the redness during post-production, referring to the effort required to fix the injury.

Bettany, who is known for his role as the largely indestructible AI in VisionQuest, still had to contend with human limitations while bringing the character to life. He said, 'The irony is the actor playing Vision is kind of myopic, you know,' as reported by Variety.

What this adds

The injury did not significantly impact Bettany's vision, as he mentioned that he can't see anything without his glasses on anyway. The incident highlights the physical demands of playing a character that requires intense emotional and physical performances.
