Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha announced the birth of their fourth child, a baby boy named Alec Neel Vance, on Sunday, July 19, according to multiple outlets including OSV News and People.

The couple shared a statement expressing their joy and gratitude, thanking the doctors and staff at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit for their care.

Usha Vance, 40, is the first woman in more than 150 years to give birth while her husband is U.S. Vice President. She gave birth to Alec at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Alec joins his older siblings Ewan, 9; Vivek, 6; and Mirabel, 4. The Vances did not include a picture of the baby in their announcement.

Vance, who converted to Catholicism in 2019, is the second Catholic to hold the role of vice president. Usha, who is Hindu, has said she has no plans to convert but the family attends Mass together and sends their children to Catholic schools.

In a statement to People, the Vances expressed gratitude for the support they received during this time, particularly from the military doctors and staff at Walter Reed Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit.

Vance has been vocal about the importance of raising children throughout his political career. He referenced his commitment to increasing the birth rate at the 2026 March for Life rally in Washington, D.C., stating, 'I want more babies in the United States of America.'

Vance and his wife have been accompanied on overseas trips by their children, with the kids often pajama-clad as they board Air Force Two for the overnight flights.

Vance's political career has seen him evolve from a memoirist and Hillbilly whisperer to a figure with a more conservative bent, often emphasizing family values and the importance of raising children.

Vance's announcement of the birth came after a busy day of campaigning in North Carolina, where he spoke about President Donald Trump's tax cuts for working families and empowering state and local law enforcement.

The Vances have been open about the challenges and rewards of raising children, with Usha saying in a June 2025 interview with Megan McCain that after her husband converted, 'we had to have a lot of real conversations about how' to raise their children.

Vance's remarks at the 2026 March for Life rally underscored his commitment to increasing the birth rate, stating, 'I want more babies in the United States of America.'
