Ole Miss RB Kewan Lacy Not Expected to Play Against Florida
Confirmed
In Short: Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy is not expected to play against Florida on Saturday due to a shoulder injury sustained during the team's win over LSU.

Coach Pete Golding said Monday that Lacy will not carry a full workload and will be part of a running back rotation.
"That’s going to be a constant rotation based on how (Lacy) is, and how healthy he is," Golding said.
Lacy missed the Rebels' loss to Florida after leaving the LSU game in the first half with an undisclosed injury.
"But even coming back, he’s not going to take the toll of 40 or 50 snaps, and all those things," Golding added.
The Rebels had a bye week to rest Lacy, who set single-season program records for rushing attempts, yards, and touchdowns last season.
"Was good for a solid week, not practicing. Practiced (Sunday) night, came back. Did individual, did some team sessions. A lot of that was noncontact last week. Fully anticipate having him this week," Golding said.
Without Lacy, Ole Miss will rely on sophomores JT Lindsey and Makhi Frazier to split carries against Florida.
"We still have another chapel session, so I’m not giving up yet," Golding told ESPN.
Lacy's absence leaves the Rebels' rushing attack averaging 114 yards per game, with Lacy responsible for 191 of the total 342 rushing yards this season.
What this adds
Reports indicate Lacy's shoulder injury is significant enough to keep him out of the Florida game.
Lacy's status for the upcoming game against Vanderbilt remains uncertain, but Golding anticipates having him back for that contest.
Background
Ole Miss star running back Kewan Lacy is expected to return this week against Vanderbilt after missing the previous game due to injury.
Florida's surge into the College Football Playoff conversation continues after a decisive win over Ole Miss.

What's confirmed
- No. 9 Ole Miss anticipates having star running back Kewan Lacy back Saturday at Vanderbilt, but coach Pete Golding said Monday that the All-American will not carry a full workload.
- “That’s going to be a constant rotation based on how (Lacy) is, and how healthy he is,” Golding said.
- “Obviously (Lacy) rested all last week,” Golding said.
- The Rebels (3-1, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) will use a rotation at running back rather than allow Lacy to handle the bulk of the carries.
- “But even coming back, he’s not going to take the toll of 40 or 50 snaps, and all those things.” Lacy suffered a shoulder injury in the Rebels’ win over LSU on Sept.
- In the season opener against Louisville, Lacy left with a thigh bruise but returned the next game and scored two rushing touchdowns against Charlotte.
- A Doak Walker Award finalist last season, Lacy set single-season program records for rushing attempts (306), yards (1,567) and touchdowns (24).
- In 24 games over three seasons at Missouri (2024) and Ole Miss, he has rushed for 1,862 yards on 368 carries and scored 28 touchdowns.
- Lacy missed the Rebels' 52-28 loss at Florida on Sept.
- “We still have another chapel session, so I’m not giving up yet,” Golding told ESPN.
What's still developing
- Ole Miss had a well-timed bye week in Week 5 to reset after an emotional early-season rollercoaster saw them beat Lane Kiffin and LSU before traveling to Gainesville, where they were dominated by Florida.
- Lacy appeared to have a shoulder injury about halfway through the third quarter against LSU, and while head coach Pete Golding said an x-ray was negative in postgame, ESPN reporter Pete Thamel released an MRI puts Lacy’s availability at risk in the short term.
- It is also a long season with a lot of games left, so it could be best to sit Lacy for this week, next week against Vanderbilt and then have a bye week to get back to 100 percent down the stretch this season.
- Not the worst news but not what anyone in red and blue wanted to see Reports surfaced late Sunday that Kewan Lacy’s status will be uncertain for the Florida game after he had an MRI after leaving the LSU game on Saturday.
- Ole Miss is still a talented team without number five in the backfield, but its offense certainly misses his explosive big play threat and ability to grind out tough yards.
- I would think Lacy will be limited or maybe sit out practice altogether this week prior to a road trip to Florida.
- This is the title for the native ad The Rebels now have a bye week to get healthy before an eight game stretch A win on Saturday opens up a world of opportunities for Ole Miss The scoreboard operators are going to be busy this week Will this be how it all plays out on Saturday?
- Lacy was downgraded to doubtful on Friday’s Southeastern Conference injury report because of the injury sustained in last week’s victory against LSU.
- The star tailback was able to rest during the team's bye last week.
- He sustained a bone bruise in Ole Miss' season-opening win over Louisville but was able to play against Charlotte the following week.
- Kewan Lacy is “not expected” to play in the Ole Miss-Florida game on Saturday, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
- Lacy’s shoulder must be hurting if Golding is counting on the divine to get him back on the field in surprise fashion on Saturday.
