Indian Students Win Five Medals at International Earth Science Olympiad

Students from ALLEN Career Institute and Narayana Schools have achieved remarkable success at the 19th International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) held in Turin, Italy, from August 20 to 27, 2026. ALLEN students Riddhi Ranjan and Soumik Mandal were part of the Indian team and won five medals, including three gold and two silver.
Riddhi Ranjan demonstrated exceptional field-based Earth Science skills by winning a gold medal in the International Team Field Investigation (ITFI) category. She also secured a silver medal in the Earth System Project (ESP) category, contributing significantly to India’s medal tally.
Soumik Mandal emerged as a standout performer, winning two gold medals at the international competition. His achievements highlight the strong analytical abilities and teamwork skills of the Indian participants.
Meanwhile, Narayana Schools celebrated the success of its students Akshat Srivastava, Pranjal Dixit, and Sumant Gupta, who won gold medals at the 17th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) in Hanoi, Vietnam. The trio was part of a five-member Indian team that secured a joint third position among 64 countries.
Dr. Sindhura Narayana, Director of Narayana Educational Institutions, praised the students' achievements, stating, 'The accomplishment of Akshat, Pranjal, and Sumant is the latest in a series of achievements by students of Narayana Schools at national and international Olympiads and other competitive examinations such as JEE and NEET(UG).','The Indian team's performance at the IOAA in Hanoi was equally impressive, with all five participants winning medals. Pranjal Dixit, Sumant Gupta, Akshat Srivastava, and Arnav Sehrawat from Faridabad each won gold medals, while Daksh Tayalia from Bengaluru secured a gold medal at the IOAA in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), which trains selected students for different science Olympiads, noted that since India's participation in Astronomy Olympiads in 1999, 49% of students have won gold medals, 35% silver, and 13% bronze.

The IOAA in Hanoi saw participation from 307 students representing 64 countries, making it the largest IOAA to date in terms of both participating countries and students.
