India Wins Four Gold Medals at International Astronomy Olympiad
Developing
In Short: India's team secured four gold and one silver medal at the 19th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics in Hanoi, Vietnam.

India's team achieved a significant milestone at the 19th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) in Hanoi, Vietnam, between September 25 and October 5, winning four gold and one silver medal.
According to the Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education (HBCSE), which trains students for science Olympiads, this marks the first time since 1989 that every Indian participant has won either a gold or silver medal.
The gold medalists are Pranjal Dixit from Hyderabad, Sumant Gupta from Delhi, Akshat Srivastava from Gurugram, and Arnav Sehrawat from Faridabad. Harshil Amitkumar Patel from Vadodara won the silver medal.
With four gold medals, India finished third in the medals tally, alongside Vietnam, behind Iran and South Korea, which each won five gold medals.
The HBCSE noted that since India's participation in Astronomy Olympiads began in 1999, 49% of students have won gold medals, 35% silver, and 13% bronze.
In the last five years, all Indian participants have won either gold (64%) or silver (36%) medals, reflecting a consistent performance in international science Olympiads.
What's still developing
- With the IOAA, all the senior level Olympiads (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy) of this year are now concluded.
