Actor Tom Holland has launched a non-alcoholic beer brand called Bero, aiming to make social drinking more inclusive for those who choose not to drink alcohol. Holland, known for his roles in 'Spider-Man' and 'The Odyssey,' announced the brand in an interview with Food & Wine's Tinfoil Swans podcast, set to air on October 22.
Holland revealed that he had given up alcohol and found it challenging to reintegrate into social drinking environments. 'Drinking is like breaking bread,' he said, noting the cultural significance of alcohol in the UK. 'I really felt like this was a market that I could exist in,' he added, expressing his passion for promoting a healthier lifestyle and helping others.
Bero's distinctive gold cans stand out from the typical blue cans associated with non-alcoholic beers. Holland explained, 'I felt like that was slightly unfair to label non-drinkers as like the blue community. Sometimes you just wanna blend in.' The brand's structural engineer advisor is currently working on uniquely shaped bottles that will be released in the coming months.
The brand's co-founder, John Herman, emphasized the importance of delivering exceptional flavor and experience. 'BERO is focused on delivering amazing flavor to meet the modern palette with premium at its core,' Herman said in a news release. The brand's glass bottles, now available at berobrewing.com and select restaurants and bars, reflect the brand's dedication to excellence in taste, quality, and design.
Bero's expansion into glass bottles marks a significant shift in the non-alcoholic beer market. According to global drinks data, non-alcoholic beer volumes are projected to grow 18% annually through 2029. 'Alcohol-free beer, the methods used to produce it, and its flavor have all developed enormously in a relatively short period of time,' said Anikó Lehtinen, a drinks business lecturer and beer sommelier. 'Breweries have had to focus much more on the category, because sales of alcoholic beer are declining in many markets.'
Holland's wife, Zendaya, co-stars with him in 'The Odyssey' and 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day,' and Bero is releasing exclusive beer lines for both films. The brand's summer shandy collection, inspired by Zendaya's preferences, and limited-edition collections for movie premieres highlight the brand's growing popularity and cultural relevance.
The brand's commitment to inclusivity and quality is evident in its product offerings. The Odyssey x Bero launch features the classic Bero Noon Wheat from its original lineup, a true wheat beer that does not lean into IPA or Pilsner flavors. 'Before Bero launched — before the artwork for our cans was even finalised — we envisioned the brand in a glass bottle,' said Herman. 'We have developed this bottle for the places we believe the category is going next — bars, restaurants, hotels and beyond.'
Holland's dedication to Bero is evident in the time and effort he has invested in the brand. 'It is taking up 99% of my time, which I'm absolutely loving,' he said. The brand's success reflects the growing demand for non-alcoholic beer and its increasing presence in social and cultural contexts.
