At the New York City Ballet 2026 Fall Gala on October 1, Sarah Jessica Parker told People why she keeps a boundary between her personal wardrobe and the iconic pieces from her role as Carrie Bradshaw.

"I don’t wear any of the wardrobe that I wore on the show ever," Parker said, explaining that the pieces are often one-of-a-kind or have already been extensively used on screen.

"There’s just a huge separation between myself and Carrie Bradshaw. It would be like walking around in Sarah Sanderson’s costume," she said, drawing a parallel to her character from Hocus Pocus.

Parker’s comments contrast with a statement she made in 2025, where she said she occasionally pulled from Carrie’s archive for personal use, but emphasized that it was rare.

"What would the circumstances and the environment be that I would be wearing this, and would it be okay and safe, or would it be destroyed? I’m very judicious about that," Parker explained at the time.

"I have no interest in integrating my life into Carrie’s or making her more familiar," she added last year.

For six seasons of Sex and the City and more, Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe became as iconic as the character herself, with pieces from Manolo Blahnik heels to Fendi bags and Betsey Johnson dresses.

"It just—it doesn’t seem applicable to my life," she said, emphasizing the distinction between her personal style and Carrie’s.

At the ballet gala, Sarah Jessica turned to an Irish designer for her outfit, wearing a pretty pink dress by Simone Rocha, with a few alterations made to the dress, adding sleeves in the same pretty embroidered fabric.

Parker’s co-star Cynthia Nixon recently revealed that a third of her wardrobe today is from her character Miranda Hobbs’s closet, on Sex and the City, which wrapped in February 2004 after six seasons.

"I was invited to a birthday party in England, and we were already nearby, so I pulled from the archive," Parker said, admitting that it doesn’t happen all the time.

"It’s not every day," she said of the archive that has amassed since 1998 and the first episode of Sex and the City.
