Russian Drones Hit Kyiv's Southern Bridge, Disrupting Metro Link
Confirmed
In Short: Two Russian drones struck near the supports of Kyiv's Southern Bridge, halting traffic and disrupting a key metro link between the city's eastern and western banks.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that two Russian drones struck near the supports of Kyiv's Southern Bridge on Oct. 1, disrupting a key metro link between the city's eastern and western banks.
Videos began appearing on social media around the same time, showing a fire on the bridge and a column of smoke rising above it.
Following the strikes, traffic across the bridge was halted as emergency services inspected the site and assessed the damage.
At 2:25 p.m. local time, the Kyiv City State Administration announced that traffic across the bridge had resumed after a preliminary inspection found no critical damage to the structure.
Several hours before the strike on Kyiv's Southern Bridge, a Russian drone hit a school in the city's Solomianskyi district, sparking a fire on the third floor and partially damaging a wall.
President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attacks, stating, “Russian scumbags continue attacking life across our country, Ukrainian children, and our schools. Russia must be held fully accountable for this and receive a response to its strikes.”
Russian drones also struck a non-residential complex in Kyiv's Pecherskyi district and warehouse facilities in the Solomianskyi district, according to local authorities.
The latest attack comes a day after Russia launched its largest attack on Kyiv's energy infrastructure since last fall, causing power outages.
The Air Force said Russia attacked Ukraine with 107 drones, including Shahed-type drones, Gerbera drones, and decoys.
Russia attacked Ukraine overnight with 188 drones and various missiles, according to Ukraine's air force.
This was the first time Russian drones had targeted one of the capital's bridges.
The attacks began with two drone impacts near a bridge support Thursday morning.
What this adds
The Southern Bridge links Kyiv’s eastern and western banks across the Dnipro and carries both road traffic and the Green Line of the city’s metro.
During the first attack, a metro train was actually crossing the bridge.
For several hours Thursday, Kyiv authorities were forced to repeatedly halt, reroute, and restore road and metro traffic as specialists inspected the crossing.
