Maharashtra Board Exempts Drought-Affected Students From Exam Fees
Confirmed
In Short: The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has waived exam fees for Class 10 and 12 students in 265 drought-affected talukas.

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) announced on Wednesday that it will waive examination fees for Class 10 and Class 12 students in the state’s drought-stricken sub-districts.
According to officials, the board has instructed all its divisional units to accept online applications without collecting examination fees from students in drought-affected talukas.
Poor rainfall this year has rendered as many as 265 of the state’s 358 talukas, constituting around 74 per cent of Maharashtra, drought-affected.
The decision to exempt students of these sub-districts from paying the exam fees comes after a government resolution dated September 25, which announced various concessions, including exemption from exam fees, as a special provision for the drought-hit areas.
The fee exemption, as directed by the board, will cover students appearing for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations, until further orders.
Last academic year, a total of 15,55,026 students had registered for the SSC exams as regular candidates from the nine divisions, with 15,42,472 appearing for the exam and 14,20,486 securing passing marks.
In HSC, as many as 14,44,713 students registered last year, with a total of 14,33,058 appearing for the examination.
The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has directed its divisional boards to accept applications from eligible students without collecting the prescribed fee.
The board has also directed divisional units to submit reports on the action taken to implement the decision.
Students from the identified drought-affected areas can apply for the February-March 2027 SSC and HSC examinations without paying the prescribed examination fee.
The examination fee waiver is part of the relief measures announced by the State Government for students in these areas.
Divisional boards have also been asked to inform schools and junior colleges in the affected talukas about the decision.

The fee waiver will apply to students appearing for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations scheduled for February-March 2027.
