India Invites China to Tourism Meet in Disputed Tawang
Developing
In Short: The Indian government has invited delegates from China to a tourism event in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, despite territorial disputes.

The Indian government has chosen Tawang, a disputed region in Arunachal Pradesh, as the venue for the International Tourism Mart, an event set to take place from October 27 to November 1.
Sources say the decision to hold the event in Tawang is significant, coming after the government identified 27 places and features in Arunachal Pradesh for accurate recognition on official maps.
The Ministry of Tourism is collaborating with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh for the event, which will bring together delegates from around 20 countries.
Delegates from China have also been invited to the annual event, which rotates among northeastern states.
New Delhi strongly rejects China’s territorial claim over Arunachal Pradesh, reiterating that it is an “inalienable and integral part of India”.
Beijing refers to Arunachal Pradesh as Zangnan or South Tibet and claims it belongs to China.
While government representatives from China have not attended the tourism event traditionally, private tour operators have participated in the past.
At the 2018 edition in Agartala, over 60 tour operator delegates from different countries, including China, participated.
