U.S. prosecutors have charged more than 40 people with crimes related to the assassination of Haiti's President Jovenel Moïse, with a dozen already convicted, including five who are serving life sentences.

Sanon, a Florida pastor and dual Haitian American citizen, faces eight charges connected to the assassination, including conspiring to kidnap or kill a person outside the U.S. He has pleaded not guilty.

Jury selection began Monday in the federal trial of Sanon, who prosecutors allege initially wanted to replace Moïse as Haiti's president.

The start of Sanon's trial drew members of South Florida’s Haitian community to the federal courthouse in Miami, where one observer said, 'When I heard about what happened to my president, it hurt me so bad.

Haiti has not had a president since a squad of gunmen killed Moïse and wounded his wife in an overnight raid at their home in 2021.

Previous investigations were stalled because Haitian judges kept resigning from the case, fearing for their lives, and gangs seized control of the downtown Port-au-Prince courthouse where the judges were interrogating suspects.

Five years after the assassination, dozens of people arrested in connection with the killing are still awaiting trial in Miami.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray denied any association with the death of Disha Salian, strongly denying any connection and calling the repeated allegations an attempt at 'character assassination.

Thackeray said if you think that through such character assassination and false propaganda, you can make us sit quietly, that is your delusion.

The false discussions on TV channels and media trials carried out through empty bluster cannot alter the truth.

The new revelations on Tuesday about Thomas Matthew Crooks and his attempted assassination of President Donald Trump came as quite a surprise to Republican lawmakers.

What this adds

The trial of Christian Emmanuel Sanon marks a significant step in the ongoing legal proceedings related to the assassination of Haiti's President Jovenel Moïse.

Sanon's case is one of several that have been moved to Miami due to safety concerns in Haiti.

The legal process in Haiti has been hampered by political instability and violence, leading to the transfer of cases to the United States.
