Pope Leo Meets Hungarian PM, Portuguese President at Vatican

In Short: Pope Leo XIV met with Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar at the Vatican on Thursday to discuss the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, the impact of artificial intelligence, and other challenges facing Europe.
During the meeting, Magyar formally invited the pope to visit Hungary and presented him with a book of memoirs by Cardinal József Mindszenty, a significant figure in 20th-century Hungarian Catholicism.
Pope Leo also received Portuguese President António José Seguro in their first official meeting since Seguro became head of state.
Seguro conveyed the friendship of the Portuguese people and renewed an invitation for Pope Leo to visit Portugal in 2027, marking the 500th anniversary of the apostolic nunciature.
The pontiff and Portuguese president also discussed conflicts, migration, multilateralism, and international law.
