The U.S. Secret Service arrested a Venezuelan immigrant Thursday night near the White House after he was found in a parked car with multiple firearms, including an AR-15-style weapon, a Mac 10, and a Glock 43X.
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin praised the Secret Service's quick response, stating, “Thanks to our brave Secret Service officers, this illegal alien with three firearms in his vehicle was arrested near the White House before he could harm anyone.”
The incident occurred in the 1600 block of Constitution Avenue NW, near the Ellipse, according to CBS News. It was not immediately clear if the suspect had an attorney.
The arrest reflects a growing threat posed by armed individuals drawn to the White House complex, according to the Secret Service. To address this, the agency will continue to focus on proactively investigating and identifying individuals who raise suspicion.
