Trump says Russia-Ukraine deal is near after meeting Putin’s envoy
Confirmed
In Short: US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that a deal between Russia and Ukraine may be near, following a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin's special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, at the White House.

The meeting came after a diplomatic gathering hosted by First Lady Melania Trump, which brought Russian and Ukrainian representatives together to mark and build on the localised six-day truce in Oleshky, a city in Ukraine’s Kherson region.
During the event, Melania Trump presented Putin’s and Zelenskyy’s representatives with large white envelopes containing personal letters for each leader. She urged both sides to see the humanitarian truce in Oleshky as a spark in a world of darkness.
Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that he thinks they are “very close to settling Russia-Ukraine,” though he did not disclose details of his conversation with Dmitriev. He also said the effort could involve “all of Europe.”
Trump also claimed that he had reached an agreement with Putin regarding the supply of Russian diesel fuel to the US and global markets, though this claim was not corroborated by other sources.
The meeting between Trump and Dmitriev was unscheduled, according to TRT World.
