Anthropic has introduced a new Personal Finance feature in its AI assistant Claude, allowing US paid subscribers to securely connect their bank accounts starting today. The feature is designed to simplify financial management by enabling users to ask natural-language questions about their finances.

Claude can break down expenses into categories, compare spending across months, flag duplicate charges or creeping subscription costs, and identify upcoming bills. The company emphasizes that the feature is read-only and cannot move, manage, or invest users' money.

According to Anthropic, 'Getting answers about your money no longer means opening every banking app and doing the math yourself.' The Personal Finance feature is available to subscribers on the Pro, Max, and Ultra plans.

Users must agree to the terms and approve Claude's read-only access, ensuring that Claude does not ask for or see their bank password. The company has not announced a separate Personal Finance add-on fee.

Claude’s latest move shows just how eager AI companies are to get a seat at users' financial tables. However, Anthropic is taking a cautious approach by letting Claude examine financial data without giving it the keys to users' money.

The Personal Finance feature uses Plaid to review connected accounts through read-only access. Users are advised to verify important figures with their bank, as Claude can make mistakes in its answers.

In an email blast to customers titled 'Protecting your finances in the AI World,' Bank of America urged customers to never share their username and password with another person or an outside service, including an AI-enabled tool or agent.

Analysts at Gartner predict by 2030, 80% of neocloud firms will 'cease independent operations,' while Forrester's experts expect at least three of them to be imminently acquired 'as finances get shaky.'

Also contributing to the shift was Wednesday's data that showed a 3.4% year-over-year increase in the personal consumption expenditures price index in August -- still far above the Fed's 2% goal but no worse than in July.
