Canva Announces Major Restructuring Affecting 1,271 Employees
· Confirmed
In Short: Canva CEO Melanie Perkins announced a major restructuring affecting 1,271 employees, or 22% of the company's global workforce, as part of a broader industry trend.

Canva CEO Melanie Perkins announced a major restructuring on Wednesday, affecting more than 1,200 staff, or 22% of the company's global workforce, in what she described as 'the hardest moment' in Canva's history.
Perkins said the restructuring is necessary to 'refound Canva, getting back to our roots of small, empowered teams with the freedom to make decisions, take ownership and focus on what matters most for our community.'
The restructuring will include job cuts, role changes, and potential relocations for global staff, with Sydney becoming the primary hub for product teams. The company will also require employees working under hybrid arrangements to spend two to three days a week in the office starting January 2027.
Canva's restructuring follows its most challenging year, with the company recording its first slowdown in growth in a decade. Perkins added, 'It had been our hardest year yet, and as we shared earlier this year, our growth has slowed for the first time in a decade.'
The company will provide support to employees affected by the relocation requirements. Chief People Officer Amy Coleman said in a blog post that the voluntary exit offer was available to eligible employees in Canada, India, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
In July, the company had announced it was cutting 4,800 jobs, about 2.1% of its global workforce, including a large number of workers at its Xbox video game business. The company had approximately 223,000 full-time employees at the end of June.
The restructuring is part of a broader trend in the tech industry, with Microsoft offering voluntary buyouts to about 60,000 employees, or roughly 27% of its global workforce, as the company invests heavily in artificial intelligence.
