In the third quarter of Monday night's game between the Golden State Warriors and the Phoenix Suns, Draymond Green was ejected after a heated altercation with Suns player Khaman Maluach and Warriors teammate Dillon Brooks.

Green threw Maluach to the floor during an and-one opportunity, believing Maluach had flopped on the play. Brooks, trying to de-escalate the situation, attempted to hold Green back, leading Green to aggressively grab Brooks' jersey near his throat.

Green was charged with two technical fouls, resulting in his ejection from the game. The incident occurred as the Suns were up by eight points, and it quickly escalated into a full-blown confrontation.

Brooks, in an interview with CBS Sports, said, 'I was just trying to de-escalate it.' Green's actions were seen as a significant escalation, especially given his history of on-court confrontations.

Without Green, the Warriors managed to surge back from a double-digit second-half deficit, securing a 116-113 win. Stephen Curry's heroics with 34 points and Charles Bassey's 19 points and eight rebounds off the bench were key factors in the comeback.

Curry expressed his gratitude for the team's response, saying, 'By committee, everybody showed up.' He also emphasized the importance of Green's presence, stating, 'All I’ll say is we need him. He knows that. We all know that. So whatever it takes for him to be on the floor and available, that’s what’s gotta happen.'

Green's ejection marks his first of the 2026-27 NBA season. Once a player reaches 16 technicals in a season, it triggers an automatic one-game suspension.

Green's absence highlighted the team's reliance on his leadership and playmaking abilities. He leads the Warriors in assists (6.3 per game), and the offense thrives around him with Curry and rookie star Yaxel Lendeborg combining for more than 50 points per game.
