Ceasefire in Kherson Collapses as Fighting Resumes
Confirmed
In Short: A six-day ceasefire in Ukraine's Kherson region collapsed on Monday as fighting resumed, following the evacuation of hundreds of people from Oleshky.

The ceasefire, the longest since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, allowed for the evacuation of hundreds of people from the Russian-occupied Ukrainian town of Oleshky and its surroundings.
Ukraine's General Staff reported that the ceasefire period was used by Russian forces to set up positions, rotate units, and expand anti-drone equipment on roads.
The Kremlin acknowledged that both sides likely used the ceasefire period for regrouping, with spokesman Dmitry Peskov stating it was reasonable to assume the Ukrainian army also used the time for necessary regrouping.
Fighting resumed in the Kherson region after the collapse of the ceasefire, with Russia bombing an aid distribution center and neighboring shelter, killing at least 24 people.
The regional administration in Kherson reported that a 62-year-old woman and a 73-year-old man were hospitalized with blast injuries.
During a call with Putin, Pope Leo XIV requested a humanitarian ceasefire in Oleshky, urging cooperation to deliver food, medical aid, and evacuate civilians.
Ukraine and Russia had agreed to a localized ceasefire to allow for a humanitarian operation in Oleshky, but the ceasefire ended without violations.
