US media reported Monday that the US military carried out strikes on Iran's Qeshm Island, located near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, according to The Wall Street Journal and The Guardian.

Iranian state media reported explosions on the island, while some residents spotted two aircraft over the area, suggesting military activity.

The explosions and reported strikes come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve tensions between the US and Iran.

US Vice President JD Vance expressed optimism about diplomatic progress, stating, “The president and I both feel pretty good about the prospects for potentially coming to a negotiated settlement.”

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran's demands for peace had been communicated to Washington, adding, “The ball is in the US court.”

Earlier, the IRGC claimed it had captured two US reconnaissance drones near Qeshm Island and destroyed an MQ-9 drone east of the Strait of Hormuz.

For Saudi Arabia, whose oil exports have dropped to 5.52 million barrels a day due to degraded pipelines and the Hormuz corridor, the lack of attribution from the US, Iran, and Israel allows them to avoid committing to future actions.

Unconfirmed footage online appeared to show airstrikes on Qeshm Island, though the cause of the explosions remains disputed.

In recent weeks, President Trump hinted at the possibility of renewed attacks on Iran, including targeting Pickaxe Mountain, a heavily fortified nuclear site.

The absence of clear attribution for the explosions and strikes allows all parties to maintain diplomatic flexibility, avoiding a definitive commitment to further military action.
