President Donald Trump will deliver remarks at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool on Monday, likely serving as a closing message for his campaign rally blitz ahead of the midterms. In more than two dozen in-person rallies across the country, Trump has stumped for Republicans facing competitive statewide races, including for Senate nominees Ken Paxton in Texas and Mike Rogers in Michigan.
The Reflecting Pool renovation began in April when Trump vowed to clean up what he called the 'filthy' water in the pool by resurfacing the more than 300,000-square-foot basin with a color he called 'American Flag Blue.' Trump promised to have contractors repair it within days for approximately $1.5 million, ahead of Independence Day.
However, shortly after completion in late June, chunks of the material could be seen partially detached in the water and algae blooms began to turn the pool bright green. Trump has maintained that vandals cut the bottom of the pool, which his administration hired contractors to resurface with 'American Flag Blue.'

The 75-page 'failure analysis' by Atlantic Coating Inspection includes scores of photos documenting the liner’s deficiencies — ranging in severity and including blisters, peeling and cracks — and identifies their likely causes.
The Justice Department’s inspector general is refusing to investigate what went wrong with the botched criminal case against former Olympic canoeist David Hearn over damage at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Prosecutors moved to abandon the case weeks later after receiving additional information from the Interior Department showing the widespread damage to the pool resulted from 'flawed installation by the contractor.'
A judge in Washington has agreed to permanently dismiss a criminal case charging a former Olympian with vandalizing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Hearn was accused of intentionally damaging the newly placed lining of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in early July. The Guardian reported that prosecutors could not prove losses beyond $1,000, and the court heard that the section of the pool Hearn allegedly touched was already damaged.
The Reflecting Pool has faced several issues in recent months, including algae growth, peeling paint, and vandalism. Trump posted on Truth Social, 'We are watching very closely, and security cameras have been installed. Reports are that it’s looking beautiful, and will only get better, subject to NO VANDALISM, with time.'
What this adds
The Reflecting Pool renovation project was estimated to cost around $14 million, according to Fox News.
What's confirmed
- President Donald Trump will deliver remarks Monday at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, a White House official told The Washington Sun.
- However, prosecutors then moved to abandon the case weeks later after receiving additional information from the Interior Department showing the widespread damage to the pool resulted from “flawed installation by the contractor.” The government said it would not have sought an indictment had that information been provided earlier.
What's still developing
- Both candidates sat down separately with "60 Minutes" correspondent Ross Douthat in the closing days of the campaign.
- Hearn has said he was on a bike ride on June 19 when he reached in to examine the pool’s newly peeled coating and briefly touched a chunk attached to the side of the pool.
- The country has been growing at around 6% annually in real GDP terms, reflecting a combination of natural resource wealth and structural reform.
- Our pool of emerging markets in central and eastern Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa offers a diversity of opportunities, a defining feature of the asset class.
- "Interestingly, the Reflecting Pool has not worked properly since it was built in 1922 — It always leaked! This will be different, but any Vandals that try to prove the point otherwise, will GO TO JAIL!"
