Trump Promotes Crime Reduction at Midterm Rally
· ConfirmedShare on
In Short: The rally in Long Island was one of many stops on the administration’s midterm campaign circuit, aiming to bolster turnout and support Republican candidates across Florida and other key states.

President Donald Trump visited the Nassau County police academy in suburban Long Island to promote new FBI crime statistics showing a decrease in violent crime for 2025. The statistics, which were released Friday, indicated that violent crime rates had dropped by 11%, from 859 reported crimes in 2024 to 761 in 2025, according to The Virginian-Pilot.
The campaign event was part of Trump's nearly monthlong effort to shore up support for Republican candidates ahead of the November 3 midterms, where Republicans are trying to retain control of the US House of Representatives and Senate. Trump acknowledged that his campaigning might not deliver the results he desires, but noted that this is typical for midterm elections.
Experts note that national violent crime rates have been declining since 2022, and pinpointing an exact reason for the reduction is difficult. However, Trump's administration has touted a 95% reduction in illegal border crossings and the deportation or self-removal of more than 2 million migrants who had illegally lived in the U.S., according to U.S. Reps. Josh Brecheen, R-Okla., and David Rouzer, R-N.C.
The president also focused on economic issues, criticizing inflation rates and pledging to 'throw out Bidenomics and replace it with MAGAnomics', including overturning Biden's signature legislative achievements such as the Inflation Reduction Act. He also referenced Germany's experience with inflation, saying, 'Ask Germany how inflation many, many years ago destroyed the country.'
In a bid to help Republican candidates in northern U.S. States, the United States is expected to remove 50% tariffs on some Canadian agricultural and forestry products, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The reductions could be balanced out by raising levies on other Canadian goods, the report added.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently declared rent reductions in major cities nationwide to be the result of fewer people living in the country, according to a post on X. Dallas and Houston each reported 3% reductions in rent.

What this adds
Experts note that attributing the crime reduction solely to Trump's policies is challenging due to the complex factors influencing crime rates.
