ConfirmedShare on
In Short: Israeli security forces arrested 18 settlers for allegedly attacking troops during the evacuation of an unauthorized outpost in the West Bank.

Israeli security forces arrested 18 settlers on Monday for allegedly attacking troops and obstructing the evacuation and demolition of an unauthorized outpost in the occupied West Bank, according to the military. The outpost, Givat Ora Yisrael, near the Palestinian town of Salfit, had been previously cleared out by authorities.
During the confrontation, settlers physically and verbally attacked security personnel, leading to the arrests. The incident occurred as dozens of Border Police officers and Civil Administration soldiers arrived to demolish structures at the outpost.
Settlement expansions continue despite UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which called on Israel to immediately and completely cease all settlement activity in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem. Monitors and rights organizations have reported that more than 200 unauthorized settler outposts have been established in the West Bank since 2023, many in coordination with settlement municipal authorities, the military, and other state agencies.
In July, the Israeli military signed at least 15 land-confiscation orders covering about 20 hectares in Areas A and C of the northern West Bank’s Jenin governorate. Some outpost residents have openly stated their goal was to drive Palestinians from their land in neighboring villages, including in locations beyond Area C.
The previous day, October 16, Washington Post journalist Heidi Levine was severely beaten by masked Israeli settlers as she was covering the olive harvest in the West Bank village of Abu Falah. Levine sustained four fractured vertebrae, two broken ribs, and four puncture wounds when she was knocked to the ground and repeatedly beaten by a crowd of masked settlers.
On Saturday, October 17, harvesters in the Palestinian Christian village of Taybeh came under attack by masked Israeli settlers throwing stones. The previous day, masked Israeli settlers attacked a convoy of European diplomats in the West Bank during the Palestinian olive harvest season.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed concern over recent attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians, while France's Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot called on Israeli authorities to urgently halt the criminal violence and guarantee the safety of civilian populations.
