Google Launches Connected Apps Platform for Gemini and Search
ConfirmedShare on
In Short: Google announced the launch of its Connected Apps Platform, which enables developers to integrate their applications into both Search and the Gemini app.

The platform aims to streamline user interactions by allowing them to perform tasks such as ordering groceries or creating playlists directly within Google’s services.
Developers can choose whether their apps will be available in Search, the Gemini app, or both, and they must register, test, and submit their apps through the new Google Connected Console.
According to Google, over 50 popular apps are already integrated across Search and Gemini, including those from Adobe, Calm, Experian, Localiza, and Peloton.
The Connected Apps Platform is being rolled out in phases, with more developers, markets, and Google products to be added over the coming months.
Google’s goal is to make Gemini and Search more functional by integrating a wide range of services, reducing the need for users to switch between different apps.
Developers must have a cloud-hosted MCP server or Android MCP using the AppFunctions APIs to participate in the platform.
The new platform also provides developers with tools to monitor app usage, response times, and errors within the Google Connected Console.
Google’s July announcement described consumer integrations in AI Mode, which is now being expanded with the Connected Apps Platform.
Google aims to make Gemini a central part of users' daily routines, from creating playlists to ordering groceries, through these integrations.
What this adds
The Connected Apps Platform builds on Google's previous announcements about expanding Gemini's capabilities, including file generation and AI integrations.
The value of the platform remains contingent on the number of apps joining and their functionality.
Some users and developers express concerns about the potential for SEO spam and AI poisoning, which could affect the reliability of search results.
Background
Google's new file generation capabilities in the Gemini app allow users to generate, preview, and edit documents, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets, Markdown, plain text files, and code directly within a chat.
At its latest developer conference, Google announced updates to its Gemini AI system, including new file generation capabilities and an expanded Connected Apps Platform.

What's still developing
- Google is now expanding availability on multiple fronts, starting with the Connected Apps Platform.
- While several apps are currently compatible with connected apps in Gemini (but not so many in Search), Google is taking early steps to let more developers into the ecosystem.
- Giving AI access to our favorite apps opens up all sorts of possibilities.
- Dated October 28, 2026, carrying a three-minute read time and filed under Developer tools, Search and Gemini App, it runs to five paragraphs under the headline "Build and manage Connected Apps in one place." Two announcements share the space: a developer platform, and a new set of consumer integrations.
- They need to add your app to their personalized Google Search settings as documented here.
- However, to successfully capture and retain consumers’ attention, there have to actually be a wide range of connected apps to explore.
- Users describe what they want, and Gemini 3.1 Pro handles the technical implementation.
- And none of this accounts for the SEO-ridden spam and AI poisoning (which, as 404 Media reported on last year, has also affected places one-time bastions like Reddit) that has caused searching for everything from product recommendations to reviews to simple troubleshooting steps to move into user-created forums in the first place.
- Google Search has gotten so frustratingly awful, so filled with inaccurate information and incorrect results, I'm just not sure I can trust the platform to be my default search platform for much longer.
- The best prediction market apps in October 2026 are Kalshi, Polymarket, FanDuel Predicts, ProphetX, Novig, Underdog, OG.com, Crypto.com, Gemini, and Plus500.
- However, the value still depends on how many apps are joining the platform and how well they work.
- The company is opening its Connected Apps Platform to developers, making it easier to bring third-party services into its AI experiences without asking users to switch between apps.
