Android Authority spotted new strings in the Google app's latest version, indicating the tech giant is developing daily time restrictions for Gemini usage in supervised accounts.

One of the strings reads, 'Your parent set a daily time limit for Gemini,' which will likely appear as a notification to children when their parents impose a usage limit.

Similarly, 'Your daily Gemini time limit changed' will pop up when parents adjust the allotted time.

Parents can already decide whether their children can use Gemini through the Family Link app, which allows them to manage their child’s device.

If a child uses up their allotted Gemini time, the app will inform them about the daily limit and when they can start using it again.

Google acknowledged the risks of AI in an email to Android Police, clarifying that Gemini can make mistakes and recommending parents help their children think critically about Gemini responses.

Google also advised parents to remind children that Gemini isn’t human and to avoid sharing sensitive or personal information.

Google is rolling out Gemini to children under 13 through Family Link, allowing parents to set up a Google account for their child.

The tech giant is also integrating more of its services with AI, as the company announced that its personal agent, Gemini Spark, can now manage Google Photos libraries.

Gemini is being integrated across Search, Maps, Google Maps Platform, and Cloud, making it more accessible and useful.

However, Gemini Spark remains blocked in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Nigeria.

Google is also adding new features to Gemini, such as an audio recorder on mobile and a 'plus' redesign to Gemini Live on Android, making it easier to add photos and files.

What this adds

Google's new feature for daily time limits for Gemini usage in supervised accounts adds a layer of parental control over children's AI interactions.

The integration of Gemini across various Google services and the addition of new features like audio recording and improved Live functionality enhance the platform's utility and accessibility.

Google's acknowledgment of the risks associated with AI and its recommendations for parents to help children think critically about Gemini responses reflect a growing awareness of the potential dangers of AI in the hands of young users.

Background

Gemini is already available globally on Android Auto and vehicles with Google built-in, but Personal Intelligence takes things further by connecting information from Google services that drivers already use.

In addition to Google Photos, Gemini Spark is also being integrated into Google Maps, offering a conversational driving experience in CarPlay.
