Apple has released HomeView 27.2, the operating system for its upcoming smart home hub, which is set to launch on November 13. The update includes 20 default wallpapers, each available in light and dark modes, designed to fit the device’s 1:1 aspect ratio.
Marcus Mendes, a Brazilian tech podcaster and journalist, noted that Apple’s new HomeView system update includes the device’s default wallpapers, available for download. Mendes has been covering Apple news since 2012 and has expanded his focus to the wider tech industry.
The wallpapers, which can be downloaded individually or as a ZIP file, feature a variety of designs, including a blue variant, a green variant, and a monochromatic version, all with dark iterations. The blue variant features fine silver-blue lines curving into oversized 'PRO' lettering against a black background, with small accents of yellow, orange, and blue.
Apple’s HomeView 27.2 update also includes new animations and a selection of pre-installed Apple apps, such as Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Apple News, Calendar, FaceTime, and Messages. The device will also support third-party audio and video apps, but users need to be recognized by the camera and have a paired and recently unlocked iPhone or iPad nearby.
HomeView is priced at $299 and is available for pre-order now. Up to six people in a household can use the device, which distinguishes users by voice and through the camera built into the front of the device.
The HomeView smart home hub will come pre-installed with a selection of Apple apps and will support third-party audio and video apps. However, Apple did not create an App Store for the HomeView, so there is no on-device way to download apps.
Apple’s HomeView will feature the Apple A18 chip, the same SoC used in the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, and 16e. Alongside the HomeView, Apple is expected to launch a new HomePod mini with the S10 chip, which was used in the Apple Watch Series 10, Series 11, Watch SE 3, and Watch Ultra 3.
Retailers have launched Black Friday Doorbusters this weekend, offering discounts on various Apple products, including the AirPods Pro 3, AirTag 2, Apple Watch Ultra 4, and MacBook Air and Mac mini configurations.
