Portland Trail Blazers guard Ja Morant will miss at least four weeks after suffering a Grade 2 hamstring strain during Thursday's game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Morant left the game early in the fourth quarter after feeling a 'twinge' in his hamstring, according to head coach Micah Nori.

The team announced today that Morant will be re-evaluated in four weeks, but recovery from a Grade 2 hamstring strain can take several months, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

In his first four games with the Blazers, Morant averaged 15.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists in 25.8 minutes per game.

Morant's injury is a new type, not a recurring one, and it occurred during his first game against his former team since being traded to Portland this offseason.

With Morant out, backup guards Jrue Holiday and Scoot Henderson are expected to take on larger roles.

Morant's absence is a significant blow to the Blazers, who have prospered in the early season with him in the lineup.

In 23 minutes of action against the Grizzlies, Morant finished with 14 points, three assists, and two rebounds.

Coach Nori said postgame that Morant felt a twinge in his hamstring before leaving the game.

Morant stayed in the game for two more defensive possessions before checking out at the next stoppage of play.

Morant's injury is the latest in a string of absences for high-profile players, joining Anthony Edwards, Jalen Williams, and Tyrese Haliburton, who are also missing significant time.

What this adds

Morant's injury history is detailed on the Blazers' website.

The Blazers' early-season success with Morant in the lineup may be challenged without him.

Morant's trade to Portland was seen as a significant move to bolster the team's roster.
