Packers Favored Over Panthers in Thursday Night Matchup
· Confirmed
In Short: The Green Bay Packers are favored over the Carolina Panthers in their Thursday Night Football game, following recent disappointing performances by both teams.

The Green Bay Packers will host the Carolina Panthers in the Week 8 edition of Thursday Night Football, with the Packers favored to win despite their own recent struggles. The Panthers are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where they managed just 266 yards, 15 first downs, and 13 points while turning the ball over four times.
The Panthers' offensive performance was their worst of the season, but they still managed to maintain a.500 record after a win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6. However, the team's defense has been inconsistent, allowing almost 60% of their rushing yards in games against the Bucs and the Chicago Bears in Week 1.
On the other hand, the Packers are also coming off a disappointing loss to the Detroit Lions, where they had multiple chances to win but ultimately fell short. The Packers' season took a hit after a blowout loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3, but they had won three in a row before their most recent loss.
In the run game, the Panthers rely on Chuba Hubbard, who averages 4.8 yards per carry in a workhorse role. The Packers, however, struggled to run the ball against the Lions, despite welcoming Josh Jacobs back to the lineup. The Packers are currently ranked 19th in points scored and 24th in points allowed, with a recent 39-22 loss to the Vikings and an overtime game with the Jets.
Carolina's defense has been solid, allowing just nine touchdown passes against nine interceptions. However, the team's recent performance has been marred by a franchise-record 149 penalty yards in a Week 6 win over the Eagles, averaging a whopping 186 yards per game in penalties, which is 25 more yards than the next closest team and more than 65 yards above the league average.
Quarterback Jordan Love of the Packers has only completed 59.8% of his passes at an average of 7.4 yards per attempt this season, but he's been victimized by a league-high 21 drops, according to Tru Media. Meanwhile, Bryce Young of the Panthers returned to poor form on Sunday, going only 14-of-27 for 163 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, while also fumbling once.
Both teams have been disappointing, but the Packers have shown more consistency in their recent performances, having previously gained at least 340 yards in every game, gained at least 24 first downs in four of five games, and scored 25-plus points in four of five games. The Panthers, however, have been inconsistent, with their offensive struggles overshadowing their defensive efforts.
Packers quarterback Jordan Love acknowledged the need for improvement, stating, 'We've got to be better than we were last time we played a Thursday night game here at home, and I know we will be.'
