Byron Allen, the media mogul behind Allen Media Group, has sold his entire 10.7% stake in Starz Entertainment, according to a filing with the SEC.

Allen Family Capital, Allen's investment arm, had acquired the stake in March for $25 million in a private transaction with Steve Mnuchin’s Liberty 77 Capital.

The sale took place between August 9 and September 29, with shares sold at prices ranging from approximately $21 to $27 per share, generating a total of around $45 million for Allen.

Starz, which offers programming geared towards women and underserved audiences, separated from Lionsgate Studios in 2025.

Allen Media Group owns 13 broadcast television stations and 10 networks, including the Weather Channel, and has a diverse portfolio that includes FAST and AVOD streaming platforms.

In May, Allen Family Digital closed a deal to acquire a majority stake in digital media company BuzzFeed, with Byron Allen becoming chairman and CEO.

The sale of the Starz stake comes as Allen continues to expand his media holdings, including the recent acquisition of BuzzFeed.

Allen has also sold 10 local TV stations to Gray Media last year for $171 million, further diversifying his portfolio.

The sale of the Starz stake is consistent with Allen's strategy of acquiring and then selling off stakes in media companies to generate capital.

Allen's actions reflect a buy-low, sell-high approach to media investments, as noted by Variety.

The sale of the entire stake underscores the volatility of media investments and the importance of strategic exits.

Despite the sale, Starz reported third-quarter 2026 earnings results, indicating the company's ongoing operations.
