AI giant Anthropic files for an IPO that could break records
· Confirmed
In Short: AI firm Anthropic has filed for an initial public offering (IPO) in the US, potentially setting a record for the highest valuation in a tech company's debut.

AI firm Anthropic has filed for an initial public offering (IPO) in the US, potentially setting a record for the highest valuation in a tech company's debut. The filing, which could value the company at between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion, would surpass SpaceX's record-breaking $86 billion IPO in June.
Anthropic, founded just five years ago, recently raised money from private investors that valued the company at more than $965 billion, ahead of OpenAI's most recent valuation of $852 billion. The company's revenue has grown rapidly, with first-half 2026 revenue of $16.3 billion, up from $1.2 billion in the same period last year.
However, like many tech companies going public, Anthropic has yet to turn a profit. The company reported a net loss of $80.7 billion for the first half of 2026, more than six times the net loss of nearly $13 billion for the first two quarters in 2025.
In its filing, Anthropic said it would list on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol “ANT.” The company also plans to commit 5% of its shares to a fund that will make donations for the “public good.”
The filing highlights Anthropic's rapid growth and heavy capital spending. The company spent $8.9 billion in the first half of the year on chips and other infrastructure to run its platform, compared to $2.3 billion over the same period last year.
Analysts have mixed views on Anthropic's IPO. Some see it as a key test for the rapidly emerging AI sector, while others are concerned about the company's ability to maintain its momentum and deliver returns.
The company's CEO, Dario Amodei, has called for a slowdown in AI development after one of his company's former researchers said there's a 10% chance the technology could wipe out humanity in the next decade.
Anthropic's IPO could raise as much as $100 billion, according to reports, and is expected to be held around mid-November.
The filing also shows that Anthropic holds a right of first refusal on the campus’s expected third building, Bloomberg reported.
The company's prospectus shows that the advent of machine intelligence is one of the seminal moments in human history, and Anthropic will continue to weigh the effects of its models on the public good before issuing any new products.
The filing also highlights the need for cash, which may explain why Anthropic is rushing to tap public markets this year, and not waiting until next year, as is OpenAI's plan.
