Qatari mediators have presented Iran with a new draft deal to end the ongoing US-Israeli war, according to an official briefed on the negotiations. The proposal was handed to Tehran on Sunday, amid concerns that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could resume attacks on Iran this week.

A senior Iranian official denied Wednesday that Qatar had presented Tehran with a new peace proposal, saying instead that Qatar had come with 'unacceptable' ideas. The Iranian official told Reuters that Tehran would show no flexibility on the nuclear issue.

The cost of the Iran war has risen to an estimated $47 billion, according to an estimate from the U.S. military's Central Command obtained by CBS News Tuesday. The bulk of the cost, $29 billion, is for replacing expended munitions.

According to a report released by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office in September, the Iran war could cost approximately $2 billion to $3 billion per month for as long as it continues.

Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in Doha, Qatar, on October 6, 2026. Previous mediation efforts helped secure an interim peace agreement in June, but the deal quickly unraveled.

Iran has warned of the 'devastating impact' on markets of a new attack initiated by Israel. The timeline for any potential deal could begin early next week, with several countries acting as guarantors.

Qatar Delivered US Response to Iran on Seven-Day Proposal. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met Qatari mediators in Doha on Tuesday night and received US feedback on a proposed seven-day trust-building plan, which he will discuss in Tehran on Wednesday.

Top US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were in Doha on Tuesday for meetings with Qatari mediators to discuss negotiations with Iran. However, Qatar and Iran said there would be no high-level meeting between Washington and Tehran on Tuesday or in the coming days, contradicting a Monday claim by US President Donald Trump.

‘What will take place in Doha tomorrow is a discussion with the Qatari side about implementing parts of the memorandum of understanding, including the release of Iran’s blocked assets,’ Baghaei told journalists at his own briefing.

One or the other would need to obtain majority support in Israel's 120-seat parliament, known as the Knesset, in order to form a government.
