American Cinema Editors (ACE) announced Wednesday that John Carpenter will receive the 2027 ACE Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year award, a recognition that celebrates his contributions to the horror genre and his collaborative editing style.
Carpenter, known for classics like 'Halloween,' 'The Thing,' and 'Escape from New York,' has shaped the modern horror landscape with his unique directorial touch.
ACE President Sabrina Plisco praised Carpenter, saying, 'John Carpenter makes movies that get under your skin and stay there.'
The award ceremony, set to take place at UCLA’s Royce Hall, will also honor Bonnie Koehler and Christopher Nelson with Career Achievement awards.
Koehler’s career spans from American Zoetrope to Emmy nominations for 'L.A. Law' and 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,' while Nelson is known for cutting the finale of 'Lost' and work on 'Six Feet Under' and 'Mad Men.'
The 77th annual ACE Eddie Awards will feature 14 competitive categories recognizing the year’s best film editing achievements in film and television.
Patton Oswalt will return to host the awards show, which will celebrate outstanding editing in film, television, documentaries, shorts, and digital content.
Carpenter’s recognition comes as the museum recently announced a four-night series of screenings hosted by him, including his 1978 horror classic 'Halloween,' in connection with 'The Horror Show,' the museum’s new large-scale exhibition.
The event will also feature a performance by Carpenter to close the evening, celebrating his legacy and contributions to cinema.
The ACE Eddie Awards gala will honor Carpenter alongside other notable filmmakers, including Spike Lee, Quentin Tarantino, and Steven Spielberg.
