AI giant Anthropic officially kicked off its initial public offering (IPO) on Monday, according to PBS. The company, which developed the chatbot Claude, is aiming to raise funds that could exceed SpaceX's recent record of $86 billion, as reported by PBS and Ibtimes (Australia).

According to TechCrunch, Anthropic recorded a revenue of $16.3 billion for the first half of 2026, up from $1.2 billion in the same period last year. However, the Washington Examiner reported that the company also incurred a net loss of $80.75 billion in the same timeframe, highlighting the rapid growth and mounting costs.

Both Ibtimes (Australia) and Al Jazeera (Qatar) reported that Anthropic plans to list under the ticker “ANT” and is expected to hold its IPO around mid-October, with its prospectus expected to be made public as early as late October, according to Livemint.

Al Jazeera (Qatar) and Ibtimes (Australia) noted that Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees, including CEO Dario Amodei and President Daniela Amodei, his sister. The company’s charter requires its leadership to balance shareholder returns with responsible AI development.

TechCrunch and the Washington Examiner reported that Anthropic’s expenses in AI infrastructure rose from $433 million in 2023 to over $2.5 billion in 2024, before surging above $7.3 billion in 2025. This rapid growth has led to significant losses, as noted by the Washington Examiner.

Both Ibtimes (Australia) and Al Jazeera (Qatar) reported that Anthropic has committed 5% of its shares to a new “public benefit” fund, with the amount potentially increasing as its shares grow in value. The company plans to use the fund for donations to traditional nonprofits and direct distributions to specific populations, as stated by Al Jazeera (Qatar).

TechCrunch and the Washington Examiner reported that Anthropic’s Founder LLC, comprising Dario Amodei, Daniela Amodei, Tom Brown, Jack Clark, Jared Kaplan, Sam McCandlish, and Christopher Olah, will collectively control 50.1% of shareholder voting power, designed to preserve the company’s AI safety mission.
