1Password Launches 1Password for Agents to Let AI Use Your Passwords Safely
· Confirmed
In Short: 1Password has introduced 1Password for Agents, allowing AI agents to use your passwords without seeing them.

1Password has introduced a new feature called 1Password for Agents, which allows AI agents to use your passwords without ever seeing them, according to multiple tech outlets including 9to5Google and ExtremeTech.
This new feature works by connecting an AI agent like Meta’s Muse to 1Password, which then asks for permission to sign into a website. If approved, 1Password fills in the login details directly into the sign-in form.
Once the website accepts the login, 1Password removes the credential so the agent can’t read or reuse it as it continues the task. The actual sign-in is handled by 1Password, not the agent, ensuring that your credentials remain hidden.
1Password for Agents uses a unique digital key to verify the AI agent's identity to 1Password, ensuring secure access. This process leaves the rest of your password vault inaccessible to the agent.
John Torrey, Chief Business Officer at 1Password, said, “Every major shift in technology changes how people sign in, and personal agents are the biggest one since the web.”
Aashish Tripathi, chief product officer at 1Password, noted, “The old model where you hand over a credential and hope for the best doesn't work.”
This solution seems far safer than just handing an AI agent your passwords, as it allows the agent to complete tasks without ever handling your actual credentials.
1Password for Agents is currently working with several popular AI agents, including ChatGPT Dots, Claude Duet, Grok Bot, and Meta Muse.
Until now, the only options have been handing over the password and accepting the security risk, or taking over the keyboard every time a sign-in screen appears, defeating the point of having an agent in the first place.
What this adds
1Password for Agents is designed to address the growing need for secure interaction between AI agents and user accounts, ensuring that AI can perform tasks without compromising security.
