According to Mashable, Anthropic describes Sonnet 5.5 as best suited for tasks that are well-scoped and everyday in nature, such as building features, fixing bugs, and producing reliable output on agentic coding and enterprise tasks.

Orcarouter reports that Claude Sonnet 5.5 is a direct upgrade over Claude Sonnet 5 and is compatible with the Anthropic Messages API and the OpenAI chat-completions format, making it a drop-in upgrade for existing Claude integrations at the same price as Sonnet 5.

The Verge reported that Anthropic has also introduced Claude Duet, an AI agent designed for professionals and small business owners, available as a research preview on iOS, Android, and through Claude on the web.

Claude Duet integrates with Claude’s memory, skills, and connected apps, and includes a virtual machine with a browser for completing work tasks.

Before executing any significant actions, such as sending payments or deleting files, Claude Duet requires user approval to ensure safety and accuracy.

Mashable quoted Slack principal engineer Curtis Allen, who said that Sonnet 5.5 outperformed Sonnet 5 in Slack's offline Slackbot evaluations, finishing in fewer steps and with about 14% fewer output tokens.

The Verge noted that while Claude Duet is designed to be reliable, it might still misread a thread or miscalibrate what’s urgent.

What this adds

The release of Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Claude Duet underscores Anthropic's commitment to expanding its AI offerings to cater to a broader range of users and tasks.
