Polling stations across Israel closed as the country began the vote count for its general election. The Media Line reported that approximately 1.2 million votes had been cast, compared with a turnout of 15.9% at the same hour in the previous election in November 2022. The New York Times noted that the vote-counting process in Israel is extensive, with ballots tallied by hand at more than 12,000 polling places.

The Media Line also reported that election officials are preparing for as many as 650,000 double-envelope ballots, which could be significant given the close polling of several parties near the 3.25% threshold required to enter the Knesset. The Central Elections Committee rejected an allegation that Likud representatives were using an application to track individual voters inside polling stations.

The Media Line reported an incident where a voter in Beersheba received an envelope that was partially open and already contained a Likud ballot slip. Police also announced the arrest of three men from Bedouin communities on suspicion of involvement in a scheme to pay people to vote for the Arab party Ra’am.

The New York Times and The Media Line both reported that preliminary results are expected to begin appearing overnight, with updated totals released as more polling stations complete the counting process.

Closeronline (United Kingdom) reported that the Sussexes, who recently visited the UK, could be house hunting in the Northampton area to remain close to Diana’s side of the family. However, an insider expressed concern, suggesting that this could be the worst move Harry has ever made.

Jpost (Israel) quoted a statement that Jonathan loved David and that out of despair would come strength from God, implying that the speaker believed someone would become the Prime Minister of Israel.

The sources also concur that election officials are preparing for a significant number of double-envelope ballots, which could be crucial in determining the outcome of the election.
