GM Switches Stock Listing from NYSE to Nasdaq
· Confirmed
In Short: General Motors will move its stock listing from the New York Stock Exchange to the Nasdaq Global Select Market, effective November 17, 2026.

General Motors announced on Tuesday that it will transfer its stock listing from the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) to the Nasdaq Global Select Market, effective November 17, 2026. The move aligns with the company's strategy to focus on technology and innovation, making Nasdaq a natural home for its listing as it grows.
Paul Jacobson, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of GM, stated, 'GM’s customer-focused, technology-driven strategy is creating value for our stockholders, making Nasdaq a natural home for our listing as we grow.' The company's shares are expected to remain listed on the NYSE through market close on November 16, 2026, before transitioning to Nasdaq the following day.
The switch to Nasdaq makes GM eligible for potential inclusion in the Nasdaq-100 Index, which tracks 100 of the largest non-financial companies listed on the exchange. However, inclusion is not guaranteed and will depend on Nasdaq's annual review process, which considers market value on the last trading day of November, falling on November 30, 2026.
GM's shares were trading 2.08% higher at $77.90 as of press time, reflecting positive sentiment around the transition. The company's decision to switch listings follows its third-quarter 2026 results and its plans for a fourth-generation electric vehicle (EV) platform.
The Nasdaq-100 Index will replace AstraZeneca with GM on January 20, 2026, according to Nasdaq. Nasdaq's methodology requires companies to be primarily listed on a U.S. Nasdaq-affiliated exchange, and GM's move meets this criterion.
GM's stock will continue to trade under the ticker symbol 'GM' on the Nasdaq Global Select Market. Existing stockholders do not need to take any action, and the company's shares will retain the same ticker symbol on both exchanges during the transition period.
The timing of GM's switch coincides with the index's annual reconstitution, allowing Nasdaq to consider GM's eligibility for the Nasdaq-100 Index. The methodology requires at least three full calendar months of trading history, but it counts time on the NYSE toward that requirement.
In broader market context, the NASDAQ 100 was up 1.24% on the day of GM's announcement, with several robotics and automation stocks also showing gains. Serve Robotics (NASDAQ:SERV) led the pack with a 13% increase to $5.39, while Ouster (NASDAQ:OUST) shares rose 6% to $41.53 and Symbotic (NASDAQ:SYM) added 4% to $44.76. The ROBO Global Robotics and Automation ETF (NYSE:ROBO) was up 2% to $80.89.
