The Berlin Film Festival has announced that it will world premiere Brett Morgen’s immersive concert experience, 'Stage,' during its 77th edition in the city’s 17,000-capacity Uber Arena venue.

'Stage' combines large-scale projections and transparent LED screens with an elaborate lighting design by Patrick Woodroffe, who has worked with The Rolling Stones and Elton John.

The concert footage, from a 1978 performance celebrating Bowie’s 'Heroes' album, has remained untouched in the David Bowie archives for almost 50 years.

Tickets for 'Stage' go on sale on October 30 at 9am GMT and 10am CET.

The production is a collaboration between Rob Hallett’s Wonderworld, the David Bowie Estate, and Morgen.

'Stage' was first authorized by Bowie’s estate for its world premiere in Cannes in 2022.

The immersive experience is further enhanced by a specially created sound mix from Academy Award winner Paul Massey, using state-of-the-art 7.1 surround technology and spatial audio design.

The Berlinale director, Tricia Tuttle, called the event 'a dream come true' for the festival.

The production promises to be 100% faithful to Bowie’s legacy while making his genius accessible to global fans and a new generation.

The Chenab Times reports that 'Stage' will combine previously unseen concert footage with a sophisticated interplay of immersive sound and light.

The multi-sensory presentation aims to transport attendees directly into the heart of Bowie’s legendary performances, offering a unique perspective on his enduring impact on music and culture.

The 77th Berlin International Film Festival runs from February 16 to February 26, 2024.
