Sources: Simmons told to leave Chiefs team meeting by Reid, Mahomes
Confirmed
In Short: Second-year offensive tackle Josh Simmons was placed on the Kansas City Chiefs' injured reserve list following a tense exchange with head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes during a team meeting.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport, Simmons was sitting with his feet up in the offense's meeting room when Reid asked him to put his feet down. Mahomes also told Simmons to leave the meeting.
Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder told reporters that Simmons had worked hard to recover but had plateaued in his rehabilitation process, making it difficult for him to return to competition.
Simmons, a 2025 first-round draft pick, has struggled with medical issues since joining the team. He missed his rookie season due to a fractured wrist and has been sidelined since August due to a bulging disk in his back.
The 23-year-old player later apologized to Reid and his teammates for the incident during the meeting. Burkholder noted that Simmons had improved to the point where he could return to practice in a limited capacity last week.
The Chiefs' decision to place Simmons on injured reserve means he will be sidelined until at least Week 11. The team will start Joshua Ezeudu at right tackle against the Seattle Seahawks due to Simmons' absence.
Simmons' medical issues have been a source of frustration for both him and the team. He has played in only eight of 22 possible games since joining the Chiefs.
Reid instructed Simmons to get treatment from the athletic trainers if he was indeed in pain, highlighting the team's ongoing efforts to manage his rehabilitation process.
The Chiefs are looking to rebound from a challenging season and will hope that their current roster can help them re-establish their dominance in the AFC West.
