Pennsylvania Reports 1,360 Measles Cases, Five Deaths
· Confirmed
In Short: The Pennsylvania Department of Health reports 1,360 measles cases and five deaths, with 22 new cases confirmed since Friday.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) reported on Monday that the number of measles cases in the state has risen to 1,360, with 258 people hospitalized and five deaths associated with the disease.
According to the DOH, 44 counties have at least one reported case, and the outbreak has affected people across the state.
Health officials advise everyone over the age of six to be fully vaccinated with both doses to drastically reduce the chances of hospitalization.
The DOH has provided an update on the measles cases, noting that four vaccinated people have been infected, but this accounts for less than one percent of the total cases.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is excluding two measles deaths reported by Pennsylvania health officials last week from its latest update of national measles data.
The CDC’s statement notes that available information does not establish whether measles caused or contributed to the deaths or whether the individuals died from other causes while infected with measles.
Chester County, in the Philadelphia suburbs, has reported 91 cases, and the state’s top health official has accepted help from a “disease detective” sent by the CDC to curb the worst measles outbreak in the country.
The DOH reports that the highest hospitalization rate, 15%, was among children younger than five years, and 95% of cases occurred in people who were unvaccinated or whose vaccination status was unknown.
The state’s sixth measles-associated death was reported in a 39-year-old woman in Franklin County who was unvaccinated against the virus.
A spokesperson for Franklin County told NBC News that the “primary cause of death was a probable acute cardiac event due to possible complications of the measles.”
What this adds
The outbreak in Pennsylvania is now the worst in three decades, with the state health department reporting 1,260 cases as of Friday.
The CDC lists only two measles deaths for 2026 and notes this figure may change as reviews are completed.
The DOH advises that more information can be found online through the state website’s Measles Dashboard.
