Vincent Kompany, the coach of Bayern Munich, was hospitalized after collapsing during a training session for the club's reserve team on Friday.

Kompany, 40, had been battling a viral infection that affected his legs, leading to his collapse.

Eberl stated, 'First of all, the good news is that he is stable. Obviously, it was a difficult moment for all of us.'

Kompany acknowledged that he had tried to push through his illness, but his body signaled that he needed to rest.

Kompany had been dealing with the virus since last week, and his assistant Aaron Danks noted that it had affected Kompany's legs.

Kompany returned to the dugout for Wednesday's 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the Champions League, but his health deteriorated again.

The club announced that Kompany would undergo further testing to determine the cause of his collapse.

Eberl added, 'The tests have already yielded some results, but further results are needed to determine exactly what it is and how long it will take for him to recover.'

Kompany's coaching staff will manage training and match operations in his absence.

Eberl emphasized, 'We won't be talking about days, but weeks. We all understand that. And we have such a fantastic coaching staff, with Vinnie at its head.'

Kompany's team reached the Champions League semifinals and won the German Cup last season.

The club's statement said, 'Vincent Kompany had to seek medical treatment on Friday after collapsing during training for FC Bayern's second team.'
