Anthropic Launches Claude Duet in AI Agent Race
· Confirmed
In Short: Anthropic has launched Claude Duet, an AI agent designed to assist professionals and small business owners, joining the race against Meta's Muse and OpenAI's Dots.

Anthropic has officially entered the fast-growing field of proactive AI agents with the launch of Claude Duet, a new app that aims to assist professionals and small business owners. Unlike traditional AI assistants, Claude Duet is designed to monitor connected apps, surface priorities, handle tasks in the background, and check in only when human input is required.
Powered by Claude Opus 5.5, the agent is built to decide what needs immediate attention, what can wait, and when to request approval before acting. Users interact with it through text or voice in a continuous thread, and the agent continues working even when the app is closed, carrying over memory, skills, and app connectors from an existing Claude account.
Claude Duet maintains one ongoing main thread and can create separate channels for different topics while sharing the same memory. The company is tuning how frequently the agent checks accounts and messages users to balance usefulness with rate-limit impact.
The launch reflects a broader industry shift: AI is moving from reactive chat interfaces toward agents that maintain ongoing awareness, prioritize work, and execute multi-step processes with human oversight. Standalone agent apps are becoming a distinct product category alongside chat interfaces.
According to CBS News, 'It comes to you with what needs your attention, completes tasks you ask of it, keeps working even when you step away and checks with you before it acts on your behalf,' noting that it was designed for professionals and small business owners 'with more on their plates than they can track.'
Claude Duet connects to your apps and suggests things that need your attention, producing a short daily briefing that lists the items it thinks need your attention. The agent runs on Opus 5.5 and works from its own virtual machine, allowing it to keep going in the background without an open Claude session.
Until then, how useful Duet turns out to be depends largely on how much of their digital life people are willing to hand over. Some security professionals have raised concerns about new AI agents' access to such information, warning users to limit how much they share.
Pricing could be Anthropic’s strongest selling point. OpenAI’s Dots is currently restricted to its Pro tier, which starts at $100 a month. According to leaked figures, the maker of the Claude model favored among AI-assisted coders said it plans to spend $518 billion on cloud, computing, and infrastructure obligations in the coming years.

- "The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade," Coxon wrote, adding that executives and senior researchers often soften their language for the press while privately expressing the same fears.
What's still developing
- Finally, the competitive pressure among Anthropic, OpenAI, Meta, and others is accelerating feature velocity across the agent landscape.

- OpenAI’s Dots, launched the previous month, focus on always-on agents that operate across connected apps and live primarily inside the ChatGPT ecosystem.
- Steinberger joined OpenAI in February with the stated goal of building an agent “that even my mum can use,” while OpenClaw moved to an independent foundation.
- Now, Anthropic is entering this battle in the hopes of gaining user attention with a new app called Claude Duet, aimed at rivaling Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo.
- According to Anthropic’s official announcement, the model posts the following scores compared to its competitors: Anthropic itself describes the upgrade as “a modest but tangible improvement on its predecessor,” suggesting that the company is being transparent rather than overselling incremental gains.
- The latest revelation also comes as growing numbers of U.S. lawmakers call for new rules to govern AI systems after dire warnings from two Anthropic researchers that rapidly progressing AI could lead to the extinction of the human race in the not-too-distant future.
