Google Meet has launched a new feature that allows real-time translation across 63 languages, powered by Gemini 3.5 Live Translate. The feature is designed to work seamlessly even when multiple languages are spoken in a meeting, according to Android Authority.

The real-time translation feature is available for users with Google AI Pro and Ultra plans, Google Workspace users with AI Expanded Access and AI Ultra Access, and organization users through Business Standard/Plus, Enterprise Standard/Plus, and Frontline Plus plans. Schools can also access the feature through Google AI Pro for Education.

Google claims that the translation takes place in 'near real-time,' and the feature can be used throughout meetings that last up to eight hours for those with eligible plans. The feature automatically detects the language being spoken and translates it both audibly and in captions, according to Thurrott.com.

Users can turn on speech translation for themselves in their preferred language at any point in a meeting using a dedicated translation control in the meeting toolbar, as revealed in a new Workspace blog entry. This feature is designed to enhance communication for multilingual teams, making it easier for everyone to understand each other in real-time.

The real-time speech translation feature is also available in the Google Translate mobile app, where it can be used with or without headphones, providing faster and more accurate translations. The model automatically detects more than 70 languages and generates smooth, natural-sounding translated speech that preserves the speaker's intonation, pacing, and pitch.

Google's new feature is particularly useful for multilingual teams and individuals who need to communicate across different languages. It allows for more inclusive and effective communication in meetings, as noted by Techish Kenya.

While the feature is rolling out to iOS and Android users, access is expanding gradually, with consumer access, meeting-room testing, and developer experimentation moving on different schedules, according to WinBuzzer.

The launch of Gemini 3.5 Live Translate represents a significant step forward in voice translation technology, moving it closer to consumer conversations, business meetings, and developer-built services. This technology could have far-reaching implications for global communication and collaboration.

In a separate development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented Russian President Vladimir Putin with a Russian translation of the Thirukkural, an ancient Tamil text, during a bilateral meeting in New Delhi ahead of the BRICS Summit. The gift was part of the Ancient Tamil Classics in Translation Series and aims to carry the timeless wisdom of Thiruvalluvar across languages and borders.
