The Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes will start in the UK in 2027, marking a significant event for cycling enthusiasts. The detailed routes for the six British-based stages have been revealed, with the first stage beginning in Edinburgh, the most northerly Tour de France start ever.

Stage two of the men's race will be a challenging 223km ride from Keswick in the Lake District to Liverpool, featuring five categorized climbs and a total of 2,800 meters of ascending.

The organizers, ASO, have also announced that the Tour de France Femmes will conclude on Puy de Dôme, a volcano in central France. This marks the first time the women's tour will end on such a location.

The UK government has committed £32 million to fund the races and ensure a lasting legacy for the public to enjoy long after the events.

The Tour de France has previously held stages in the UK in 1974, 1994, 2007, and 2014, with the Yorkshire Grand Depart being a notable example.

The route for the 2027 Tour de France is designed to give Remco Evenepoel more time-trial mileage, potentially impacting Tadej Pogacar's pursuit of a record sixth Tour title.

The Tour de France Femmes will feature a competitive finale in the Pyrenees, with the Tourmalet and Portet stages, followed by steep ascents in the Basque region.

While the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes are set to start in the UK, France is currently facing significant unrest. Protests began in the Paris region on September 17 and spread nationwide after September 28, disrupting nearly 900 of France’s 3,700 public high schools by October 6.

The French government has opened 36 investigations into alleged police violence during student protests, highlighting the ongoing challenges in maintaining public order.

Despite the current unrest, the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes are expected to proceed as planned, offering a significant sporting event for the UK and France.

The detailed routes and stages for the 2027 Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes promise to be both challenging and memorable for cyclists and spectators alike.
